Welcome to one of Sweden's most renown waters!
One of Sveaskog's tasks is to make land and water more accessible. And we want as many people as we can to get out into the countryside and experience the enjoyment of fishing. We also contribute to maintaining the sustainable and long term development of fishing. We operate the fishing installation, Mörrums Kronolaxfiske, as part of this work.
Old traditions
Mörrum has been known for its salmon fishing since time immemorial. The first record of it appears in Valdemar II's land register of 1231.
In former times spears were used to catch the salmon in Mörrumsån. After a time fishing devices such as salmon traps, landing nets, salmon seines and salmon fishing yarns were employed. These were used up until the 1960s.
Angling
Angling at Mörrums Kronolaxfiske started in 1941. Few people took advantage of this initially; today thousands of anglers a year apply for licences to fish here. The number that can fish each day is limited. About half of the anglers who come to Mörrum are from abroad, and some 20 countries are represented every year. A comprehensive service, ample fish, extensive efforts to perfect the fishing waters and intensive conservation measures help maintain the degree of interest. All fishing requires a fishing licence, which is obtained at the Angling office. The angling season commences on the last Friday in March and closes on the last day of September.
Extensive fish conservation work
The basic concept is to nurture and develop the natural stock of salmon and sea trout. The work is carried out in collaboration with the relevant authorities. The fishing conservation work entails, among other things, biotope conservation (primarily the distribution of spawning gravel), catch control, surveillance and supervision, and upstream fish migration monitoring (fish counting). A supplementary stocking, mainly of sea trout, is also done every year.
Swimming spawn and marked smolt that have reached migration age are added to the stock.
